Mission A Guide to Perplexed

Black September

by WikiPeace editor  21.01.2013 Tensions between the Palestinian minority residing in Jordan (estimated to compose 1/3 of Jordanian citizens) and King Hussein's government escalated after the battle of Karameh. The radical Palestinian faction of the PLFP disrupted the King's relationship with the west by hijacking aircraft and forcing them to land on Jordanian territory. The king worried over the threat the Palestinians posed for the stability of his rule, which was realized after violent clashes between Palestinian guerrillas with Jordanian armed forces and an assassination attempt. Hussein retaliated with a wide scale army attack on Palestinian camps in Sept. 1970, which ended with the expulsion of the Palestinian organizations to Lebanon. Israeli pressure stopped the intention of Syria to intervene in the conflict
